Refractory castables must have five characteristics


Due to its long-term use in high-temperature facilities in kilns, refractory castables must have the following five characteristics:
1. High fire resistance
To meet the requirements of high-temperature operation, refractory castables should have the ability to withstand sufficiently high temperatures without softening or melting.

2. Good load softening temperature
Refractory castables can withstand the load of the kiln and the pressure during the operation process, and do not lose structural intensity at high temperatures, without softening or collapse.

3. Possess volume stability at high temperatures
When refractory castables are used under high temperature conditions, their volume may change due to the physical and chemical effects inside the castables. The refractory casting material is required to have a stable volume at high temperatures, so as not to cause excessive expansion or shrinkage that may cause the kiln masonry to collapse due to product expansion, or cracks to occur due to excessive shrinkage, resulting in a decrease in the service life of the masonry.
4. Good thermal shock stability
The refractory castables are greatly affected by the operating conditions of the kiln. When the temperature changes rapidly or the masonry in different parts is unevenly damp, stress will occur inside the brick body, causing the refractory castables to split and peel off, resulting in damage to the furnace body. Therefore, it is required that refractory castables have a certain degree of thermal shock stability.

5. Good corrosion resistance
Refractory castables are often subjected to chemical effects from liquid solutions, furnace dust, gaseous media, or solid objects during the use process, causing corrosion and damage to the products. Therefore, refractory castables must have strong resistance to corrosion and damage.
In addition, it is required that refractory castables have certain wear resistance, and under certain special conditions, they have certain permeability, thermal conductivity, conductivity, and hardness, while also requiring shape and proportion standards.
